Santa Barbara Wedding Video: Dos Pueblos Ranch

Ryan + Shelly: The Giving Tree

A sweet twist on a classic children’s tale. Ryan and Shelly were married at Dos Pueblos Ranch in Santa Barbara. Complete with barn and beach, this is definitely a great spot if you are looking for a rustic California wedding. Their good friend officiated the ceremony and wove in the story of The Giving Tree as an example of unselfish love. It was such a thoughtful service, and we loved every bit of it. By having a friend officiate, the ceremony becomes something more then just a legal, somber occasion. It becomes a personalized and meaningful moment, filled with comments from a person who really knows the bride and groom. While it’s not for everyone, it can be a fun choice for those who have a friend with enough courage to marry them in front of 150 people! We were joined by one of our favorite Santa Barbara wedding planners, Donna Romani, and a new-to-california photographer Elisabeth Millay. She is moving her beautiful and fresh talent from the east coast to the west. Check out Ryan & Shelly’s photos here.

Meg + Carver: A Santa Barbara Wedding

Meg + Carver

As a cinematographer, you sometimes stop and say “did that just happen?!” Meg & Carver’s wedding day was full of moments like these. Unforgettable moments, honest and beautiful. From the fog & polo grounds to the sparklers and vintage get away car. Every couple beams with love and joy on their wedding day but there was a certain special feeling of excitement that followed these two. We hope this film captures the amazing love and friendship they celebrated with each other, their families and friends on that foggy Santa Barbara day. This Santa Barbara wedding video was filmed at Villa Sevillano in Santa Barbara, CA. We LOVE this venue! It’s absolutely stunning, a great location and worth checking out for brides looking for a great outdoor venue. Coordination and flowers by the wonderful team at Toast, photographed by One Love Photography, music by one of our favorite wedding bands Wayne Foster Music and Entertainment, makeup by TEAM Hair & Makeup. What is Super 8mm Film?

Modern 8 Films love affair with super 8mm film started back in 2004. We wanted to offer something “new” to the wedding cinema industry so we went to something “old.” Finding inspiration in those that had pioneered this format in past and present day cinematography. Many have asked us “what is super 8 film and why should i have my wedding day captured on it?” If you have ever wondered this, or if you already love the format as much as we do, take the time to watch the above story. This piece off JJ Abrams’ SUPER 8 Movie, highlights the magic of the beloved 8mm/Super 8mm film formats. It discusses the history of the format, how it impacted the lives of the filmmakers, and how it is still a thriving format today. Shot and directed by M. David Melvin. Telecine, edit, color and VFX by Cinelicious.

We woke up to this super nice email from one of our 2011 couples today:
“Thank you guys again so much. It’s really amazing the power of film and how it moves everyone who has the chance to view this and hear our story. Your work is really the icing on our cake and have blown all our expectations out of the water. Lots of people shed tears, and a lot of guys are mad at me for “raising the bar” when in fact, we all just put it where it belongs:)” – Lovine & Kat

Santa Barbara Wedding: “The reason I moved 3000 miles…”

Modern 8 Films first wedding of 2012 blew in off the California coastline as Miranda Becker and Matt Pitts exchanged vows on this windy Santa Barbara day. Despite the downpour of rain the day before the wedding, Miranda was beaming with joy and excitement as she gave her rehearsal dinner speech and reflected on the past 6 years that had led them to this event. It was such a sweet moment and Modern 8 was so glad to be present for it. Matt and Miranda, we hope this film captures the laughter, warmth, and love of your day. And to steal a quote from the ceremony, “May the road rise to meet you, and may the wind be always at your backs, as you travel on this journey together.” Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to tell your story.

Filmed at The Bacara Resort in Santa Barbara, CA. Photography by Kristen of Beaux Arts Photographie.

FROM THE BRIDE & GROOM: “You just BLEW OUR MINDS!!! Oh my gosh, this is such a beautiful film and it captures our day in such a wonderful, intimate, and special way. We are so grateful for your gorgeous work, and the perfect story telling. Truly, turly we are over the moon, full of joy, in LOVE with this film. We can’t wait for the next installment!! We love you guys and couldn’t be happier!!” xoxo Miranda & Matt

Colorado Cabin Wedding

A gorgeous super 8 wedding in the Colorado Rockies. Destination weddings always have such an intimate feel, large or small, and this was no exception. Friends and family traveled from near and far to honor and witness the marriage of Neil Patrick Stewart and Monica Raymund (Lie To Me, The Good Wife). Becoming part of something that was truly meaningful for all in attendance. From the mountainside nuptials to the cozy cabin reception, Modern 8 was surrounded by inspiration at this rustic cabin wedding. We had a blast working alongside photographer Carl Zoch… here’s a sneak peak at their super awesome photos.

Carl Zoch and Modern 8 Films were honored to have this wedding featured on the Ruffled Blog. Read more about it here.
